National Security Minister applauds Police Department for decrease in crime

BBN Staff: Today, the Minister of National Security, John Saldivar extended congratulations to the Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams and the rank and file of the Belize Police Department for a reported decrease in crime.

A statement from the Ministry of National Security informs that the Belize Police Department have just seen the lowest level of murders for the first quarter of a year since 2012.

According to the statistics, as of March 31, 2019 the murder count stood at 31. This is 15 less than where it was last year at the same time and 9 less than the same period of 2017.

The count of 31 is actually the lowest first quarter tally since 2012 in spite of starting the first day of 2019 with 5 murders.

The Ministry notes that murder in southside Belize City is also at an all time low.
