By BBN Staff: The Belize Network of NGOs (BNN) issued a statement condemning the threats of violence against Belizeans, in this the final days of education and awareness leading to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) vote.
BNN reminds that democracy is in demonstration of respect and tolerance for opposing views on issues of national importance.
BNN calls on the appropriate authorities to take all threats of violence on social media and other public platforms seriously and to take all action necessary in this regard.
The network further appeals to the public to cease and desist from abusive and insulting behavior and attacks against anyone who expresses his/her opinion on whether or not we should take Guatemala’s claim to the ICJ.
The network reminds that citizens can participate in all demonstrations of democracy in a calm and respectful manner.
