By BBN Staff: The Belize National Teachers Union (BNTU) condemned the decision taken by the administration of Muffles College to disallow a teacher to return to school without prejudice after the Teaching Service’s Commission ruled that she should be reinstated.
The administration asked the teacher in January to resign after someone circulated nude photos of her online, however, the Commission ruled that the situation did not warrant her losing her job. Since then the teacher has not been allowed to teach and, up until today, was not allowed access to the staff room. BNTU President, Elena Smith, told Breaking Belize News that the union has been with the teacher from the onset, and will fully support her if she feels the matter needs to be taken further.
“They said that she should be reinstated without prejudice and that is not happening. They seem to be adamant on crucifying her a second time for something that wasn’t even her fault,” Smith said.
Smith said that the Management of Muffles needs to consider not only what kind of message they are sending to their students, but what kind of representation, they are making for Catholicism, which should be based on virtues such as forgiveness.
