Mother who beat son taken to court

By Aaron Humes: A Belize City mother is accused of harming her son, 9, after a beating.On February 24^th, the child, a primary school student, was seen with three welts on the left arm, 3 welts on the left side of his back and a swelling on the left elbow.

A social worker was immediately called in and the child was examined by a doctor at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in the presence of the social worker where his injury was classified as harm.  The child has now been placed in a care at the local child care center in Northside Belize City for his safety after the child’s father refused to take him in.

The mother, whom we will not name because it could lead to the child’s identity, was arraigned and pleaded not guilty to harm. She is out on bail of one thousand dollars and returns to court on June 3.

The facts of the case remain under wraps but we are reliably informed that a neighbor had called police about the incident.
