Police: Fire in San Roman, Southern Belize was suspected arson

Posted: Thursday, April 4, 2019. 3:25 pm CST.

BBN Staff: Police today commented on a fire that left 20 persons homeless at the start of this week.

Shortly after midnight on Monday, Independence police responded to the blaze in San Roman, Stann Creek.

On arrival, the owner of the three thatched houses indicated that at around 11 p.m. on Sunday night he was awakened by smoke coming from one of the houses.

However, he was unable to extinguish the blaze.

Police believe that the fire was an act of arson as the house where the fire started did not have electricity.

And so authorities are seeking one person for questioning. That suspect is reportedly a relative of the homeowner.
