By BBN Staff: Last week, BBN reported that Belizean authorities busted 12 Guatemalan nationals inside a vessel with a large amount of cash and cell phones.
Reports to our newsroom indicate that the money amounted to USD$40,000.
The Belize Coast Guard confirmed the bust and the detention of the men in the area of Moho River in Southern Belize, however, the men have reportedly been released from the Punta Gorda Police Station without any charges.
In addition, Chief Executive Officer of National Security, Felix Enriquez confirmed that the men were released along with their money and vessel.
Odd right? The Belize Police Department did not issue any report on the incident and yesterday media personnel the Commission of Police, Chester Williams to comment on it. Williams said that the matter is still being investigated.
