BTB announces winners of photography competition

By BBN Staff: Yesterday, the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) announced the winners of its first “Take a Shot Photography Sweepstakes,”  which focused on Culinary and Birding categories.

Kay Westby, originally from the United States but has been living in Belize for some 35 years, took first place, while  Nicole Wade from Orange Walk took second place. Westby won $2,000 in cash and a Nikon School Online course on “Beyond the Fundamentals of Photography.” Wade won $1,000 in cash and  a Nikon School Online course on “Exploring Dynamic Landscape Photography.”

The competition, held from February 15 to March 15, 2019, was opened to all Belizean photographers and had a total of 22 entries. The BTB said that the event was aimed at promoting and recognizing the creativity and talent of Belizean photographers, particularly in photographing highly delicate and specialized areas such as culinary and birding. There were 22 entries in total.

“The contest is the first of its kind ever organized and sponsored by the BTB. It will assist the BTB in promoting the culinary and birding niche markets both at home and abroad,” the BTB said. “The BTB views the Take a Shot Photography Sweepstakes an ideal opportunity to further strengthen its efforts in working with stakeholders in the tourism industry in promoting and marketing Belize as one of the world’s leading tourism destinations.”

 The BTB will use the entries for posters, banners, ads, and media requests.
