By BBN Staff: On Monday, authorities detained 18 illegal immigrants passing through Belize, in two separate operations only hours apart.

Both operations happened in the Orange Walk District, with the first bust happening around 2:30 p.m.

Police say they were informed of two vehicles suspiciously picking up passengers in the vicinity of the sugar mill. Upon investigating, they intercepted two vehicles one being driven by  Alfredo “Mono” Osorio,41, and the other by Bernal Osorio, 29, both of Santa Cruz Village in the Orange Walk.

The men were transporting 10 Cuban nationals who reportedly said that they came to Belize through an illegal crossing at the western border, and were headed for transit through Mexico to the United States.

The second bust happened around 6:30 p.m. where police found eight illegal Nicaraguan nationals at the 24-hour gas station on the outskirts of Orange Walk Town.
