Posted: Saturday, April 6, 2019. 11:25 am CST.

/strong> BBN Staff: Breaking Belize News broke the news last night that wanted Argentine businessman, Alberto Samid, was detained in San Pedro Ambergris Caye.

Samid is wanted in Argentina for evading a significant amount of taxes for his livestock and meat shop firms.

Yesterday morning, Interpol issued a red alert for the businessman and published Belize as a possible location since he was seen boarding a flight from Panama to Belize.

News outlets in Argentina as well as their Government has confirmed that Samid was detained last night in San Pedro.

This morning, Security Minister of Argentina, Patricia Bullrich issued an official statement confirming his detention.

“In Belize, Alberto Samid was arrested by Interpol, our policy is clear and transparent, those who have debts with the law must come forward, and our international collaboration policy allows us to instantly know where they are,” Bullrich said.

Belize and Argentina do not have any bilateral agreement on extradition, therefore, security authorities in Argentina believe that it may be possible for them to make an official request for his expulsion from Belize or an extradition.
