By BBN Staff: Last week Friday, Argentinian businessman, Alberto Samid who was wanted in his country for tax evasion was detained in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye.

Since then, he has been held at the San Pedro Police Station but today, officers escorted him to Belize City to begin possible extradition or expulsion process.

The 71-year old businessman also known as ‘Rey de la Carne’ is being accused in his country of evading a significant amount of taxes for his livestock and meat shop firms.
Argentina and Belize do not have a bilateral agreement on extradition, therefore, it is believed that Belize will expel him.

The San Pedro Sun is reporting that the expulsion of Samid has been ordered by Belizean authorities.

Samid’s family arrived on Sunday in San Pedro but were not there today when he was escorted from the island.

On Friday, Interpol issued an international alert for the businessman and immediately after, BBN obtained reports that he was in San Pedro.

He was detained on Friday night.

If taken back to Argentina, Samid will face the tax evasion charges brought against him.
