Ministry of Education retracts announcement; classes continue tomorrow

Posted: Tuesday, April 9, 2019. 10:30 am CST.

By BBN Staff: This morning, the Ministry of Education issued an announcement informing the public that as stated in the February 13, 2019 memo, there will be no classes tomorrow, Wednesday, April 10, 2019.

Classes were scheduled to be cancelled due to the referendum on whether or not to take Guatemala’s claim on Belize’s territory to the International Court of Justice for final settlement.

However, with the change of events by the decision of the Chief Justice of Belize and the latest by the Court of Appeal, Prime Minister Dean Barrow confirmed yesterday that there will be no referendum on April 10, 2019.

Minutes after the announcement went out, the Ministry was widely criticized by Belizeans online for cancelling classes despite the fact the injunction ruling is being upheld.

Just after 10:00 a.m., the Ministry issued a new announcement informing that classes will continue tomorrow as per regular schedule.
