Two shot over the weekend, one clings to life while other recovering

By BBN Staff: Two men were shot in Belize City in separate incidents which happened in the same general area days apart.

Oswald Warrior, got shot to his left cheek, and is still in critical condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH), after being shot on Friday night. Police say he was attacked around 7:00 p.m. on Sarstoon Street. The second victim, Keith Courtenay Jr., got shot around 8:30 a.m. on Monday at the corner of Sarstoon and Ebony Street. Courtenay received a single shot to one of his feet, was treated and released from the hospital the same day.

Police Inspector Wilfredo Ferrufino of the Crimes Investigation Branch (CIB), said that police are unsure if Courtenay was the intended target because there were several other persons in the area at the time of the shooting. Both incidents happened in the area of the city known as “Backa Town”, which has a history of gang violence. Ferrufino said that police do not have any information connecting one shooting to the other, or that either may have been gang-related.
