Man and minor held for prohibited and unlicensed weapons

By Aaron Humes:  A minor boy, 15, and 22-year-old R. Jay Young, both of Mahogany Heights, Belize District, were apprehended with prohibited and unlicensed weaponry during a search on Friday.

The duo was found in possession of a prohibited firearm – a .357 Magnum revolver with serial number 792630, along with an Aquila 357 live round of ammunition, PVC brand and 3 live round of .38 ammunition.

They were charged respectively with keeping a prohibited firearm, keeping prohibited ammunition and one count of keeping ammunition without a gun license before Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitts-Anderson.

After pleading not guilty each was remanded – the minor to the Wagner’s Youth Facility on the compound of the Central Prison and Young to the prison itself – until June 12 unless either can secure bail from the Supreme Court as the Magistrate’s Court is barred from doing so.
