US Deputy Secretary of State to host US-Caribbean Resilience Partnership Ministerial

By BBN Staff: Deputy Secretary of State, John J. Sullivan, will travel to U.S. Southern Command headquarters in Miami, Florida from April 11–12 to host a ministerial with Caribbean leaders launching the U.S.-Caribbean Resilience Partnership.

The partnership is a new collaborative effort to build regional capacity to confront disaster response and promote resilience.

Leaders will discuss new opportunities for collaboration to enhance the region’s preparedness and response efforts.

Senior leaders from eighteen countries in the Caribbean will participate, including Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Guyana, Grenada, Haiti, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, and the Dutch islands of Aruba, Curacao, and Saint Maarten.

 The Caribbean Emergency Disaster Management Agency and the Regional Security System will also attend.

Senior officials from U.S. Southern Command, the U.S. Agency for International Development, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Federal Aviation Administration, the Federal Communications Commission, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the Department of Energy, the Inter-American Foundation, and the U.S. Geological Survey will also participate in the ministerial.

Sullivan’s engagement with Caribbean neighbors, with the support of a broad coalition of the U.S. government, will reaffirm the United States’ strong commitment to the Caribbean.
