16-year-old will serve three more years on manslaughter charge

By Aaron Humes: A 16-year-old minor, who pleaded guilty last month for the stabbing death of his friend and neighbor has been sentenced to 10 years in prison, with 6 ½ years in deduction for his guilty plea and other factors that were taken into consideration.

The minor was only 15 at the time when he now admits, he stabbed Arkel August once to the chest killing him during a misunderstanding at a basketball game on the Wilton Cumberbatch Field on April 28, 2018. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter in March.

At sentencing, Justice Colin Williams told the minor, who was represented by the attorney, Darrell Bradley, that he took into consideration that he pleaded guilty at the opportune time to the lesser charge of manslaughter; his age, and time on remand. The sentence takes effect from the day he pleaded guilty.

The minor was accused of playing dirty basketball and as a result, his coach sent him home. The minor then left the court and returned with a knife to attack August.///
