By Aaron Humes: For the second time in as many days, a soldier of the Belize Defence Force was called before the court to answer to criminal charges, only to have the charges dropped.
26 year old Leroy Clare was charged with wounding but his common-law wife, whom we will not name for privacy reasons, appeared in Magistrate’s Court to request no further court action.
According to the complainant, Clare must appear before the Family Court to respond for a request for a restraining order.
The Carmelita village resident was accused before Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitts-Anderson of intentionally and unlawfully wounding his partner. She told the court this morning that she was acting of her own free will. She also informed the court that she has since sought other avenue to dealing with the domestic dispute and said she was neither threatened nor coerced.
A similar case was heard on Thursday, in which another soldier was charged with wounding and threatening words against a woman corporal of police, only to have the charges withdrawn at her request.
