Glenford Alvarez charged in sexual assault case

Already out on bail for a criminal assault charge, a fisherman is being accused of inappropriate behavior with a 13-year-old girl.

The Lacroix Boulevard resident is accused of two separately reported incidents. In February, according to the minor, she was at a home watching television when Alvarez visited the home and she saw him standing at the door entrance and he began to masturbate in front of her. Then on March 15, 2019, she told police that she was sleeping at the house again when she felt someone rubbing her legs. She woke up and saw it was Alvarez. He was sitting in a chair next to her bed and was masturbating again.

Alvarez appeared before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford and pleaded not guilty. She denied bail and remanded him into custody at the Belize Central Prison until June 13, 2019.

Relatives of Alvarez have since sought legal advice for him and are seeking bail at the Supreme Court before the coming Easter holidays.

Glenford Alvarez and several others were charged for beating up a 20-year-old Fisherman from the Conch Shell Bay area. This case is still before the court pending trial. Alvarez at the time was out on bail.
