By BBN Staff: With only 18 days to Belize’s historic national referendum on whether or not to take Guatemala’s claim on Belize’s territory to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), Guatemala is taking home the Garland and each of the race’s top 3 spots.

Sweeping many station prizes from Belize City to San Ignacio and back, the Guatemalans led the peloton with an almost 4-minute gap on the highways of Belize.

While thousands of Belizeans cheered on their Belizean cyclists, BBN notes that many Guatemalans cheered on their countrymen online.

Guatemalans Julio Padilla, José Canastuj and Rony Julajuj proudly rode in and lifted up their hands in victory.

Belizeans are now waiting for the other riders to ride into the finish line.

Belizean-American Justin Williams was the 2018 Holy Saturday Cross Country Cycling Classic.
