Trio freed of murder charges in San Pedro

Posted: Thursday, April 25, 2019. 7:33 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Two men and a minor accused of the 2018 murder of American Cliff Kirk in Northern Ambergris Cay were told on Wednesday in court that they did not have a case to answer.

According to the San Pedro Sun, Christian Espat, Nigel Williams and the minor, were set free in San Pedro Magistrate’s Court after a no-case submission was made by attorney Richard “Dickie” Bradley.

Bradley argued to Magistrate Deborah Rogers that the prosecution could not provide concrete evidence against the accused. The physical description of the suspects given by eyewitnesses did not match the accused; there was no proper identification as the killers were masked, and there was an inconsistency with Kirk’s death certificate. The Magistrate agreed and released the trio.

Kirk, a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army, was surprised by a gunshot to the head by four men who stole firearms, a briefcase and jetski. The house shared with fellow Army vet Linda was built ten and a half miles north of San Pedro Town on the west side in a remote location. He died in a U.S. hospital.
