Cop is arraigned for harm upon his 20-year-old girlfriend

By Aaron Humes: Another law enforcement officer is before the court for a domestic dispute.

25-year-old Leon Bradley of Gardenia Village, Belize District, was charged with harm and arraigned before Magistrate Emmerson Banner. He pleaded not guilty and was set bail of $500.

The accuser was also at court, asking to withdraw the charge, but she did not have any identification on her to prove her identity or relationship to Bradley. The case returns to court on May 30. Before then, she was asked to make a formal report requesting no further court action at the Ladyville Police Station and have a copy sent to the court, which would also confirm her identity. She said she had lost her voters’ ID and does not have a passport.

The accuser had told police that she and Bradley were at home when he asked for sexual intercourse and started to remove her clothes. When she refused him, they fought and he hit her in the face.

 Pending any withdrawal of the charges, Bradley would be the third law enforcement officer who was dragged before the courts only to see charges withdrawn, joining two soldiers in the Belize Defence Force.
