Citizens for Defense of Sovereignty denounces Referendum raffle

By BBN Staff: Citizens for the Defense of Sovereignty (CDS) issued a statement today denouncing the issuing of free raffle tickets on May 8, 2019, whereby the free raffle tickets are purported to encourage Belizeans to vote “Yes” in the ICJ Referendum.

The CDS says that such promise or offer to give any gift during the voting process is unlawful, immoral and unethical.

Additionally, it diminishes the importance of the decision Belizeans must make and the value of our sacred democratic process.

The CDS calls on those who are responsible for conducting these raffles to immediately stop these activities.

The CDS calls on the Government of Belize to ensure that voting on the ICJ Referendum proceeds in a fair and transparent manner, with all the necessary resources and support required by our democracy and the rule of law.
