By BBN Staff: Jai Chawla from Belize High School, took first place yesterday in the local qualifying round for the global 2019 Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship, hosted by Sai Info-Tech.
Chawla’s victory means he will be representing Belize at the final round in New York, USA, from the 28th to 31st of July 2019. Chawla also has a chance to compete in the Certiport’s global Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship which has a first prize of US$7,000.
Sai Infotech held the competition at the Radisson Fort George Hotel and Marina, where a total of 12 students from Belize High School, the University of Belize, Cayo Center for Employment Training (CET), Edward P. Yorke High School, St. Ignatius Highschool, Belmopan Methodist High School, St. John’s College and Stann Creek Ecumenical high school completed a 50 minute exam in Microsoft Excell.
The exams were scored out of a total of 1,000 points. Dyri Thompson from Cayo CET, and Aiden Catzim from Belize High School took second and third place respectively.
The event marks the third year Sai Info Tech has hosted the competition, the 2017 installment featured Microsoft PowerPoint, and 2018 also featured Microsoft Excell. Sai info Tech is the only company in Belize that is certified to offer the training for students to enter the competition.
