Over 65% of Belizean electors participated in historic national referendum

By BBN Staff: All 344 polls closed countrywide at 6 pm today marking the end of the voting process for Belize’s national referendum on whether or not to take Guatemala’s claim on Belize’s territory to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for final settlement.

According to statistics from Elections and Boundaries department, 65.07% of Belizeans participated in today’s national referendum.

Notably, the highest voter turnout was in the Belize district with a 69.28% of overall voter turnout.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow’s electoral division, Queen Square registered the highest voter turnout countrywide with 84.06% of registered voters participating.

Lowest voter turnout was noted in Toledo East with 57.53% overall voter turnout.

These statistics are being published on the Elections and Boundaries website.

The official results will be issued by Chief Elections Officer, Josephine Tamai in Belize City.
