Wildlife Conservation Society congratulates Belizeans for participating in ICJ referendum

By BBN Staff: The Wildlife Conservation Society in Belize (WCS) issued a statement today congratulating the people of Belize for voting in a historic referendum on May 8, to decide whether the country will go to the International Court of Justice to settle Guatemala’s claim on Belize’s sovereign territory.

On May 8th, 2019, Belizeans peacefully and freely decided to vote “Yes” in the referendum.

WCS says that it sees this as a step towards strengthening Belize-Guatemala relations, whereby the two countries can work better together to protect wildlife and wild places in the biodiverse Mesoamerican region.

WCS has long been at the forefront of marine conservation in Belize with a history of providing technical and scientific support for over 30 years.
