By BBN Staff: Last night, the Belize Peace Movement (BPM) released a statement reminding Belizeans that the issue concerning the constitutionality of the 2008 Special Agreement/Compromis is paramount.

The BPM says that in keeping with the indispensable elements of Good Governance, involving: the Rule of Law, Transparency, and Accountability, it urges the People’s United Party (PUP)  to see the pending legal proceedings through to completion, as failure to do so would be tantamount to allowing a potential breach of the Constitution to go unchallenged.

The BPM explains that in giving due preeminence to the Belize Constitution, as the supreme law of the land, Belizeans expect that the nation’s governance apparatus of checks and balances are allowed to function without political interference.

Furthermore, the BPM states that by not seeing the matter through, it will inevitably contribute to further erosion of the people’s trust in our political system and the already grossly unacceptable level of corruption that plagues the nation.
