By BBN Staff: On May 10, 2019, Belize’s Ambassador to the United States of America & Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States, Daniel Gutierez issued a statement thanking all Belizeans for participating in Belize’s historic national referendum on May 8, 2019.

Gutierez says that he admires Belizeans for being able to hold firmly on to the love of Belize as a compass throughout the torrent of conflicting information shared regarding the national referendum.

“Let me be exceedingly clear,  however, Belizeans voted, yes or no, all were patriots. In under  30  days, the will of the people shall  be  made  flesh  and  Belize  will, as  process demands, formally advise the ICJ ofthe results of the referendum and Belize’s ability to submit to the jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice in the Hague,” Gutierez added.

Gutierez also informed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs shall be organized to keep the Belizean people apprised on the progress of the case and any milestones of interest to the public.

He thanked all Belizeans for participating in the polls, and discussions leading up to May 8, 2019.

Gutierez ended by reminding Belizeans to put differences aside and proceed as one people.

“On Wednesday the people of Belize were giants, may history so tell their tale, Long Live Belize,” the statement ends by saying.
