By Aaron Humes: Four men accused of belonging to rival gang groups, one of whom was out on bail for another offense, were jailed on Tuesday by Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford.
Tevin Cacho; Ulide Allen; Akeem Augustine; and Jeffrey Buller were brought to court for alleged involvement with the “Backa Lands Crips” and “PIV Bloods” gangs, respectively, both based in the Lake Independence area. Cacho and Buller are allied with the former; Allen and Augustine, the latter.
Allen was out on bail related to a shooting incident on Coney Drive on February sixth.
The men will each spend ninety days on remand before they can be released on bail in the lower court, or alternatively can seek bail in the Supreme Court.
Gang affiliation remains an offense under the Criminal Code and has been periodically used to send ‘undesirables’ off the streets for certain periods.
