Special Agreement planning meeting postponed

By BBN Staff: Due to scheduling issues, a planning meeting between the governments of Guatemala and Belize, which scheduled for today has been postponed.

Guatemalan media reported this morning that the foreign ministers of both countries were to meet to coordinate the implementation of the Special Agreement between Guatemala and Belize to submit the territorial, insular and maritime claim to the International Court of Justice, however, that meeting has been cancelled with no definitive date on when it will be held.

As a part of the Special Agreement, there is a thirty day window to get the process moving following Belize’s referendum, held on May 8. Breaking Belize News (BBN) will be following up as this story develops.
