Hurricane Season has not yet arrived but we have a tropical disturbance in the Atlantic

By BBN Staff: The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has issued a report on an area of disturbed weather in the Atlantic that has a chance to become a tropical depression or even a tropical storm this coming week.

According to the NHC, it is not expected to affect [Belize] or the United States and is forecast to move south of Bermuda.

“This morning it had a 40 percent chance of becoming a depression over the next five days,” the NHC said. “Conditions are also expected to become less favorable for development by Wednesday.”

A system has to have winds of 39 miles per hour and a closed center of circulation in order to get a name.

Andrea is the first name on this year’s storm list.

This afternoon, the NHC will issue another update on this system.

The Atlantic hurricane season begins on June 1.
