Lee Mark Chang leaves Senate to advance political career

Posted: Wednesday, May 22, 2019. 11:32 am CST.

By BBN Staff: Lee Mark Chang, once the President of the Senate, has officially resigned his post to further a career in politics as he makes his bid for the United Democratic Party’s Standard bearer for the Caribbean Shores Division.

Chang made the announcement at yesterday’s Senate meeting, emphasizing that he has been honored serving the people of Belize in that capacity since 2015.

“Without a doubt, my time in the Senate has been instrumental in furthering my commitment to the people of Belize and I now feel that I can best accomplish this by serving the people of Caribbean Shores directly as a standard bearer of the United Democratic Party and in the future possible the area representative,” Chang said.

Chang joins the race to contend against former Area Representative Santiago Castillo and former Belize City Councilor Leila Peyrefitte. Prime Minister Dean Barrow said this week that the former Standard-Bearer for the division, Darrell Bradley, “graciously” signed off on having the position go to a convention in six weeks time.
