Minister of State immediately reassigned. Was it bad blood?

By BBN Staff: Yesterday, the Government of Belize (GOB) announced that the Minister of State in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Angel Campos, has been re-assigned as Minister of State in the Ministry of Human Development, Social Transformation and Poverty Alleviation.

The Office of the Prime Minister made the announcement yesterday, which carried an immediate effect. Changes in Cabinet portfolios is not strange for GOB, such as changing three Attorney Generals between 2015 and 2016; however, speculations are that the change comes as a result of bad blood between Dr. Campos and Minister of Health, Pablo Marin.

Reports are that Marin and Campos have been in discord for years, with the situation getting as bad as Campos not being able to visit the offices of the Ministry of Health while Marin was there. Critics have
noted that the speed with which Campos was re-assigned may be an indication of an issue between the two, however, these reports are all unconfirmed.

More information on this is expected to circulate in the days to come leading up to the 2020 elections, which Prime Minister Dean Barrow has stated will not be before November 2020.
