US Embassy’s Natella Svistunova honored with prestigious award

By BBN Staff: Public Affairs officer of the United States (US) Embassy in Belize, Natella Svistunova was awarded with the 2019 Public Diplomacy Association of America Award (PDAA) in Washington DC on May 5, 2019.

PDAA,a volunteer, nonprofit organization of current and former State Department, broadcast, academic and private sector public diplomacy professionals honors diplomats for outstanding public diplomacy initiatives.

At the annual PDAA awards ceremony, outgoing PDAA President Cynthia Efird noted that a record 26 nominations had been submitted for the 2019 awards, an indication of the importance of public diplomacy to achieving U.S. foreign policy objectives.

Svistunova was honored for the US Embassy in Belize and Marie Sharp’s partnership and signature product, “ Pure Love” pepper sauce in an effort to assist victims of Gender-based violence.

The new product by the famous Belizean brand was launched at a Valentine’s event at the United States chief of Mission’s residence on February 14, 2019.

PDAA noted that the unique approach of the new initiative to combat gender-based violence in Belize has achieved iconic status in Belize.

In addition, Marie Sharp committed to provide all proceeds of the sale of the product toe Haven House, Belize’s only shelter for women and children fleeing domestic violence.

 “She (Marie Sharp) personally added an inscription to every bottle label that reads in part, ‘Inspired by the U.S. Embassy in Belize, I am proud to launch and support this special product to help combat gender-based violence in Belize’,” PDAA noted.

PDAA congratulate Svistunova for her efforts and networking in Belize to raise awareness of gender-based violence.

The organization also referred to a statement issued by Belize’s Special Envoy for women and children, Kim Simplis Barrow who thanked Natella for her vision and drive to the initiative.

BBN extends congratulations to Svistunova for her commitment to this and many other outstanding initiatives in Belize and in extension to Marie Sharp for her dedication and contributions to positive initiatives in Belize.
