By BBN Staff: On Tuesday, May 22, BBN broke the story of local farmers in La Gracia, Cayo concerned about not being able to sell their local produce due to the sale of contraband carrots in Belize’s market.

The farmers expressed their frustration since they have a large amount of investment in their farms and it is their only form of livelihood. (will link story here)

Today, the Ministry of Agriculture issued a statement warning of contraband carrots and encouraging all Belizeans to support local products.

The Ministry of Agriculture says that its mandate is to advocate and provide accessibility for farmers to supply the domestic market. Therefore, the Ministry encourages consumers to support the purchasing of local products and disapproves of the purchasing of contraband vegetables.
