By Aaron Humes: Police believe 21-year-old Alejandro Lauriano was a marked man, and it appears he was lured to his death in the quiet Belize district village of Lucky Strike on Monday night.

Lauriano and a family member, police say, were in a yard socializing when the other person left to use the latrine. It was then his killer or killers pounced and lay waste to Lauriano, stabbing and shooting him to death before his cries for help could be answered.

Assistant Superintendent of Police in charge of Crime Investigation Branch for Eastern Division, Alejandro Cowo, told reporters on Tuesday: “He was found with apparent chop wounds and apparent gunshot wounds to the body. We are looking as to exactly what motivated this person to carry out this attack on Mr. Lauriano. But from his release from prison we know that he had been receiving threats by the other family members reference to that charge that was levied on him a year ago.”

ASP Cowo refered to the double murder of sixty-four-year-old Theresita Flowers and seventeen-year-old Delcia Blanco, who were fatally shot inside a home on Tibruce Street. The charges were withdrawn in court as advised by the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. Police say Lauriano was living in San Ignacio and had recently moved to Lucky Strike.

Two of Lauriano’s own relatives, mother Bernadine and Justin, were separately shot and killed in Belize City and Lords’ Bank, earlier this year.

One person is being held as police investigations continue.
