By BBN Staff: The Atlantic Hurricane season officially opens on June 1 and goes through to November 30.
Experts are forecasting that this year’s hurricane season will be a ‘near normal’ one.
Forecasters say that there may be a total of 9 to 15 named storms of which 4 to 8 could become hurricanes and 2 to 4 major hurricanes.
The World Meteorological Organization maintains a rotating set of six list of names. Names of especially destructive or deadly storms are retired from the lists.
These names were recycled from the 2013 season, which was considered a quiet year with no major hurricanes.
