Andrew Bennett extradition case adjourned

Posted: Thursday, May 30, 2019. 2:17 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Former attorney, Andrew Bennett, was back before the Magistrate Court in Belize city yesterday as his extradition case, which he is fighting, was adjourned until June 4th.

Bennett was represented in court by his attorney Anthony Sylvestre while the prosecution was represented by the Director of Public Prosecutions Cheryl-Lynn Vidal and Assistant Solicitor General, Samantha Matute-Tucker. Both sides argued a technicality involving the a missing certificate from the bundle of extradition documents. According to Sylvestre, a certificate which was supposed to have been signed by the Belize Ambassador to the US was never signed.

He argued to the court that the document should not be admitted by the court. Chief Magistrate Sharon Frazer, however, decided the government would be allowed to provide the certification. The matter was adjourned until next week when it is expected that the hearing will begin.
