By Aaron Humes: The Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB) says consumer prices are up marginally for the first four months of 2019 as compared to 2018 (0.1 percent), as well as for the month of April (0.2 percent).
Belizeans are paying more for meats, rice, eggs, and vegetables; school fees, insurance and sporting events and slightly less for fuels and some household goods.
The SIB survey found residents of Punta Gorda Town paying three percent more for goods with increases in some foods, doctor consultation services, and other measured services. But further north in Dangriga, prices tumbled by nearly twice as much – 5.8 percent.
The SIB measures the Consumer Price Index on a monthly basis on an agreed-upon list of goods and services.
