Belize represented at anti-corruption seminar in Grand Cayman islands

By BBN Staff: Belize is among 12 countries meeting in the Grand Cayman Islands this week for the fifth annual meeting of the Commonwealth Caribbean Association of Integrity Commissions and Anti-Corruption Bodies (CCAICACB), which began yesterday.

The event gathers heads of anti-corruption agencies and government integrity commissions from Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos, and the host country itself. The event is being held under the theme “Transforming Words into Action: Revitalising the Fight Against
Corruption”.

The event will feature panel discussions and will cover corruption in sports, modernizing legislative frameworks, the investigative battle against corruption and new technologies to combat corruption. It will also feature closed-door country reporting, where nations will account for their anti-corruption efforts within their territories.

Belize’s integrity commission got new members on May 22. The commission and its work has been the topic of debate in the Houses of Parliament, as well as between political figures who have expressed their thoughts through the media.
