Guatemalan Vice Foreign Minister visits Belize

By BBN Stafg: Jairo Estrada, the Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs with responsibility for Commercial Cooperation, came to Belize this week and paid a courtesy visit to Tracy Taegar-Panton, Minister with responsibility for
Investment, Trade, and Commerce.

The Deputy Chief of Mission for Belize and Guatemala, David Vargas, accompanied the ministers as they discussed improving the traderelationship between the two countries. They also discussed getting the Administrative Commission in Guatemala operational. That Commission was established by both countries in an effort to reopen dialogue on the Partial Scope Agreement (PSA) between Belize and
Guatemala, as well as possible linkages between the Secretary of Economic Integration of Central American (SEICA) and the CARICOM
Single Market Economy (CSME).

Among the discussions, Estrada took the time time to congratulate Belize on the decision to take the territorial dispute to the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

“Minister Panton congratulated the Vice Minister on his drive to cement our alliance and agreed that the partnership with Guatemala is a “move towards an expanded cooperation that will create a better
quality of life for all citizens” the ministry said
