Neighbor accused of almost running over Hattieville teenagers

By Aaron Humes: Two teenage residents of Hattieville told police that a neighbor’s vehicle nearly plowed them over on May 26.

35-year-old Elijah Small has been charged with aggravated assault using a vehicle, against two minors aged 14 and 16.

The teenagers said they were walking on the George Price Highway toward home when they saw the vehicle coming in their direction. To avoid being hit, they had to run into a nearby drain.

Small pleaded not guilty before Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitts-Anderson and was set bail of $1,500 with conditions asked for by the prosecution, as the accusers live in the same area as Small.

He is not to approach the victims or any of their family members and must maintain a 100 yard distance of them. Neither is he to interfere with any prosecution witness or the victims’ family directly or indirectly.

Small made bail after paying off part of an old fine and returns to court in July.
