By Aaron Humes: Twenty days after being accidentally shot while on an errand, Kyron Green,11, has made a few strides toward recovery.
But his family continues to seek assistance to both pay his medical bills at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital and get him treatment abroad.
The Standard Four St. Luke’s Methodist student was hit in the neck, causing swelling on his spinal cord and leaving him at risk of permanent paralysis.
His uncle, Mark Usher, reports that he is breathing on his own and has begun physical therapy with good response in his left leg. He remains conscious and will soon be able to take food orally rather than through a tube.
But the team treating Kyron believes that his severe injuries require medium-term care not readily available in Belize, leaving his family scrambling to get funding for that treatment. Usher says they are exploring several options.
Galling for the family is that Kyron was left this way after becoming an innocent target of a gunman who failed to get his target inside a Chinese shop.
