Police trio interdicted, charged over incident at Queen Street Police Station

By Aaron Humes: An incident involving an altercation between two detainees, one an alleged mental patient, has led to three police officers being interdicted from duty and disciplinarily charged.

Collin Francis, detained pending a charge for attempted murder, attacked 60-year-old Nestor Vasquez in the police detention cell at Queen Street Police Station on Thursday night, leaving him in a critical condition.

Commissioner of Police Chester Williams in a statement said it was determined that the three officers – Sergeant Shawn Walton, PC Edward Pitterson and PC Bernard Cayetano – committed a ‘gross act of negligence.’

The Executive Duty Officer (Walton) at the time, as well as the two officers assigned to cell block duties, were fully aware of the cases of both prisoners; therefore they ought to have ensured that the two prisoners were not detained in the same cell.

Frances has been remanded until July 29th. The officers await official hearings.
