By BBN Staff: An Orange Walk man is hospitalized at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) after he was bitten by a snake on Tuesday.
He is Abel Gonsalez, 29.
His friend today told BBN that he was cutting grass in the village of Santa Martha when the 5 feet long snake sprang up and bit his foot.
He quickly chopped off its head with the machete he was using to cut grass.
Within twenty minutes after being bitten he began to go blind and unconscious.
He was rushed to the Orange Walk hospital and then to Belize City where he remains hospitalized.
At this time he needs 12 pints of blood as he continues to fight for his life.
Those wishing to donate blood can do so at any available blood bank or can contact his friend at 634-7010.
