COMPOL comments on this morning Belize City shooting between police and armed robbers

By BBN Staff: Commissioner of Police (COMPOL), Chester Williams, weighed in on a shootout between police and thieves that happened this morning.

According to him, this morning a patrol in Belize City tried to stop a white SUV but it took off through the Krooman Road. The vehicle then stopped, and thereafter, three armed men opened fire at police who then responded.

However, the armed robbers escaped.

The driver of the vehicle tried to drive away but he was cornered on Lacroix Boulevard.

He was later identified as Erwin Castillo.

In his possession were items stolen from Belize Waste Control on the George Price Highway.

Williams told the press that officers did not learn about the burglary at Belize Waste Control (BWC) until after they nabbed Castillo.

According to Williams, the security guard at the BWC compound reported that four men entered the premises, held him at gunpoint and burglarized the place.

As those three other suspects are being sought, William’s commended the officers for proactive policing.
