Fun, sun and lots of lobster: Lobster Fest 2019 coming to Placencia

By BBN Staff: Belizeans and tourists alike are getting ready for one of the largest events on Belize’s social calendar for the month of June, the annual Placencia Lobster Fest.

The event, which takes place between June 21-23rd, is marking its 21^st anniversary and is expected to draw crowds from all over the country.

The lobster fest features an opening parade, live entertainment, competitions such as Cast Net and Reel in the Dinghy lionfish catching competition, and the highlight of it all, an assortment of foods with lobster.

The event was initiated by the Belize Tourism Industry Association (BTIA) and Green Parrot Resort as a way to have a meaningful event during the tourism low season. The first lobster fest started in 1998 with the cast net and reel in the dinghy games being the only ones played. As the event grew, the coordinators teamed up with the Placencia Village Council to have the event moved onto the beach to accommodate the growing crowds.

The coordinating bodies of the festival are asking attendees to remember to keep the environment clean for everyone’s enjoyment.
