By BBN Staff: The Ministry of Education (MOE) today concluded a data quality assessment study of the Belize Education Management Information System (BEMIS).
The assessment was facilitated by Bertrand Tchatchoua, Programme Specialist at the UNESCO Institute of Statistics (UIS), along with a National Technical Team comprised of Dr. Neulin Villanueva, Deputy Chief Education Officer, Software Developer and BEMIS Focal Point, Jamir Castillo, and the staff of the Policy, Planning, Research and Evaluation Unit of the MOE.
The purpose of the data quality assessment was to investigate the data production chain and provide a diagnostic of the state of the collection, production, use, and dissemination of the education data in the country.
The assessment included consultations with key stakeholders from the Ministry of Education, educational institutions, and the Statistical Institute of Belize.
The findings will be used to determine national capacity needs and to develop recommendations for improving the monitoring of the education sector.
