By BBN Staff: The San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town Council held a meeting with stakeholders from the private and public sector on June 3, 2019.
The meeting was to launch a new economic development plan for the twin towns.
In an interview with the Government of Belize Press Office, Mayor Earl Trapp said that the Government does not have the money to invest and develop the entirety of the towns, therefore, the projects set forth will be introduced to the private sector for their partnership and support.
Trapp discussed specific areas of the proposed development in the twin towns.
“Some of our projects, we have to introduce the public-private partnership venture in it and in doing so, we will be able to establish a lot of the projects and continue to enhance our community,” Trapp stated.
Among the projects is the Fireball Loan Program carried out in partnership with Saint Martin’s Credit Union to assist young entrepreneurs to start their business.
Another project is the river bank project to develop restaurants and businesses along the Macal River Bank.
With the initiation of the projects and the collaboration of the business community, Trapp says that he foresees huge economic activity coming to San Ignacio and Santa Elena.
