Fire at Old Belize not related to BEL’s electricity supply

Posted: Wednesday, June 12, 2019. 8:35 am CST.

By BBN Staff: Authorities are still investigating the cause of a fire that partially destroyed a wooden structure at Old Belize yesterday.

The security guard told police that there was a power shortage at the building and later he saw the wooden structure engulfed in flames.

This morning, Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) informed BBN that the reported incident was not related to BEL’s supply of electricity to the property.

Additionally, BEL said that their technicians visited the property and have confirmed that the structure that caught fire was not fed from BEL’s supply.

BEL empathizes with the property owners for the damages sustained due to the fire.

The investigation is ongoing.
