John Paul II JC to host famous Guatemalan writer

By BBN Staff: John Paul II Junior College in Benque Viejo del Carmen will be the venue of the book presentation Leyendas de Noh Petén written by Guatemalan writer, Albertina López.

Lopez hails from the island of Flores in Petén. Her book has been edited by Alas y Plumas in Antigua, Guatemala.

López is a clinical psychologist and elementary school teacher by profession.

From a very early age, she was drawn to compose poetry and prose having received many accolades at the national level.

Leyendas de Noh Petén depicts a cornucopia of myths and legends that have been handed orally since the Spanish conquest of the last bastion of Maya resistance as were the Itza, lead by the legendary Can-Ek, at Tayasal, the modern-day city of Flores and its surrounds.

López will present her publication on the campus of John Paul II Junior College at Chapel Hill on Friday, 14 June 2019, at 4 p.m.

Edgar Aguilar, Guatemalan Consul, will be among the invited guests.

The author will be autographing books following the presentation.

John Paul II Junior College is a liberal arts institution founded in 2013. Its purpose is to provide a wholesome humanistic formation and it seeks to build bridges of collaboration through the arts and social & community outreach.
