Ministry of Health clarifies reports of whooping cough

Posted: Saturday, June 15, 2019. 1:29 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The Ministry of Health (MOH) issued a statement today clarifying concerns of messages about whooping cough circulating on a social media platform.

The Ministry says that presently, there are no confirmed cases of whooping cough in the country.

The Ministry confirmed that they are, however, investigating two cases from Belmopan that were sent as positives for whooping cough through a rapid test done from a private sector clinic.

“We have specific protocols to follow in our investigation process which includes sending the samples to our reference CARPHA laboratory in Trinidad. We are awaiting those results at this time and will update and advise the public accordingly,” the Ministry stated.

Furthermore, MOH advises the public to only trust information sent officially through the Ministry of Health.
